workflow.yml.
Each time a runner picks up a run is an attempt. A run starts with attempt #1; re-running it adds attempt #2, and so on. The run keeps its name and inputs across attempts.
Find runs
The Runs page lists every run you can view, newest first. A workflow’s own Runs tab lists just that workflow’s runs, with its success rate by version. Narrow the list with:- The status cards at the top: All, Queued, Running, Success, Failed and Cancelled, each with a count.
- The workflow rail on the left, or the All workflows menu.
- The search box. It matches runs, the people who started them, and tags.
- Filters: Trigger (Form, Manual or API) and Tag (the tags set in a workflow’s Settings → General → Tags).
Run status
A run that stays Queued usually means no runner in the pool is connected. The run page says Waiting for a runner until one picks it up. Check the pool in Settings → Runner Pools.
The run page
The header shows the workflow, the status, how the run was triggered and by whom, when it started, how long it took, the runner pool, and how many steps are done. The rail on the left has three groups:- Run: Details and Inputs.
- Attempt #N: All logs (every step’s output, grouped by step) and Checks (every check the attempt reported).
- Steps: the pipeline. Each step shows its status and duration, live while the run is in progress.
Steps
The pipeline lists yourworkflow.yml steps plus the ones Bentra adds:
For a repo-backed workflow, the steps appear a few seconds after the run starts, once the runner has read
workflow.yml.
A step is Pending, Running, Success, Failed, Timeout or Skipped. When a run fails, the steps it didn’t reach are marked Skipped. A step with an empty run is also skipped.
Step tabs
Click a step to open it. Its header shows the status, the exit code, the duration, and a continue on error badge if the step hascontinue_on_error: true.
Details and Inputs
Details shows the workflow and the version or commit it ran, the status and number of attempts, how it was triggered, the request and who approved it (for request workflows), the workflow’s tags, the runner pool, the queued, started and completed times, the error if it failed, and the Run ID. Inputs shows the values the run was started with: Form values for a request, or Runtime variables for a job run started manually or by API. Password fields are masked. It also lists the workflow’s variable collections and workflow variables. Those two sections show the workflow’s current configuration, not a snapshot of what this run received. Secret values are never shown.Checks
A step can report a check: a pass, fail, warning or info result shown on the run, with a name, a message and optional details. Links in the details are clickable. Steps report checks by printing a::bentra-check line:
How steps fail
- Strict bash. Each step runs with
bash -eo pipefail, so any failing command fails the step, including one in the middle of a pipeline. For a command that may legitimately fail, such asgrepwith no match, add|| true. - The first failure stops the run. Later steps are skipped.
continue_on_error: truelets later steps run after this step fails. The step is still shown as failed and the run still ends as Failed.- Timeouts always stop the run, even with
continue_on_error.
steps[*].run and steps[*].continue_on_error in the Workflow syntax.
Re-run a run
Click Re-run on a finished run (success, failed, timeout or cancelled). The same run goes back to Queued with the same inputs, and the next runner to pick it up starts a new attempt. The page then follows the new attempt. When a run has several attempts, an attempt menu in the header lets you switch between them. Each attempt keeps its own steps, logs and checks.- A request workflow’s re-run doesn’t need approval again.
- The workflow must be Active. You can’t re-run a run of a paused or archived workflow.
Cancel a run
Click Cancel on a Queued run to stop it before a runner picks it up. You can also cancel from the row’s action in the Runs list. A run that has started can’t be cancelled.Who can do what
Viewing a run follows your access to its workflow and workspace. Re-run and Cancel need permission to manage runs. If you don’t see the buttons, ask a workspace admin. See Permissions.Log retention
Log lines are kept for a number of days after an attempt finishes, depending on your plan. After that, the log lines are deleted; the run, its status and its steps remain. See Run log retention in Plans and limits. To keep logs longer, copy them out with the API before they expire:GET runs/{id}/logs/.
