# Organization settings

> View your organization's details, choose your theme and delete an organization.

## Organization details

**Settings → Organization** shows:

| Field | |
| - | - |
| **Name** | The name you gave the organization. Names don't have to be unique. |
| **Organization ID** | The organization's internal ID. |
| **Description** | Optional. Owners and admins click **Edit**, change it and click **Save**. Up to 2,000 characters. |
| **URL ID** | The ID in your Bentra URLs (`/orgs/<url-id>/`) and in the API base URL. It's 12 random characters generated when the organization is created. |
| **Created** | When the organization was created. |

The URL ID never changes, so links and API scripts keep working. The name and the IDs can't be changed.

You can also read the details and change the description through the API (`GET` and `PATCH organization/`) or the MCP server (`get_organization`, `update_organization`). See [Administration](https://docs.bentralabs.com/reference/api/administration.md).

## Appearance

**Settings → Appearance** sets your theme:

* **Light**
* **Dark**
* **System**: follows your device's light or dark setting. This is the default.

The theme is personal. It applies to your account in every organization and doesn't change what anyone else sees. The request portal always uses the light theme.

You can also read and set it through the API (`GET` and `PATCH me/preferences/` with `{"theme": "dark"}`) or the MCP server (`get_preferences`, `update_preferences`).

## Delete an organization

Only an owner can delete an organization. Deleting it permanently removes all its workspaces, workflows, runs, requests and secrets, and its encryption key is destroyed. This can't be undone.

**1. Open the danger zone**

Go to **Settings → Organization** and scroll to **Delete organization**.

**2. Confirm the name**

Type the organization's exact name.

**3. Delete**

Click **Delete organization**.

On Free and Team you can have one organization at a time. Deleting it frees you to create a new one.

> [!WARNING]
>
> You can't delete the last organization on an account while its paid subscription is active. Cancel it in **Settings → Billing → Manage billing** first. Once the cancellation is scheduled, you can delete the organization. See [Billing](https://docs.bentralabs.com/guides/billing.md#deleting-your-last-organization).

Owners can also delete an organization through the API (`DELETE organization/` with the exact name as `confirm`) or the MCP server (`delete_organization`).
